A number of our clients run Windows on the cloud platform. And, Windows users prefer —for very good reason!— to use Remote Desktop for remote administration. Recently, some users have reported trouble with Windows Remote Desktop sessions failing. And, in some instances, we’ve gotten reports of machines freezing and requiring a reboot. Our recommended workaround has been to use VNC.
Good news: we believe we’ve cleared this problem. If you experience otherwise, please contact support.

We are a company emerging from an exciting transition, from VPS provider to cloud provider.
Open Hosting first came online in 2003 with a single, innovative offering: virtual private servers (VPS) based on Linux-VServer, with a pricing scheme that charged only for the consumed resources. We called it Utility Pricing. And, the basic idea of Utility Pricing is emerging as the industry standard.

First download the API command line tool. And, then make the script executable:
chmod +x openhosting.sh
After setting two environmental variables, with a single command the API will return everything you might want to know about these two drives.

The most common question we’re asked is “what does Open Hosting offer for backups?” I like to answer that the beauty of our cloud platform is the availability of raw disk space and the potential to bring your own operating system (BYOS). Your server is your own, and without us having hooks into your server, it is practically impossible to offer a 100% backup solution. Often, I then carry on about how easy it would be to build an automated backup process using the API and trusty tools like Rsnyc.
We at Open Hosting should be the first ones to do this. So, we have.
In the coming weeks we plan to offer our customers an automated and configurable backup routine. Initially, the routine will be made available as scripts to download and install, and for 80% of you, it will work without modification on your Linux servers. Later, in July, the backup routine will be embedded in some of our self-installing server images. We plan to call it OAB, short for “Open Hosting’s API-based Backup.”
