Usage Alerts System

The Usage Alerts System is intended to notify OpenVPS Utility clients via e-mail when estimated monthly charges exceed the monthly Commit Rate.

How it Works

Every hour when we perform usage data collection, our software now runs an estimate of the monthly charges. The estimate is calculated by taking the usage cost from the beginning of the month, calculating a per-day average and applying the average to the remaining number of days in the month.

To make the data more accurate and avoid false notifications in the beginning of the month when sufficient data for calculating a per-day average is not yet available, the system only sends out alerts after the 3rd of the month.

The alert is sent to the e-mail address that is configurable from the OpenVPS control panel, under the Account | alerts menu option. Alerts can be disabled altogether by unchecking the alert checkbox.

When an alert is sent, the timestamp of the notification is stored (and is viewable from the control panel) and no further alerts are sent on the same month.
